Machine Learning (ML) is a branch of AI concerned with creating computer programs that can learn from data and generalize to new data so the program can make decisions or predictions without being explicitly instructed. A machine learning model is typically built by feeding the computer examples of a certain phenomena so that the computer can learn how to identify differences and act on them.

For instance, in Valence’s models, a machine learning model is given example audio files and a corresponding emotion label; the ML model then learns the patterns to identify the emotion of an unseen new audio file.
